2nd time around.
I am just replacing a Paramo Smock which I bought in 1997! After16 years of cycle commuting, cycle touring and hillwalking have not worn this old smock out. I am replacing it because of oil stains. My old Jacket had been washed and reproofed 100's of times and it still works! Which is more than I can say for other jackets I have used, which tend to die after about 3 years of careful use!

I was amazed by how little the design has changed, This one says its a 10 year old design.. It s clearly built of the basis of the forerunner so I have great expectations for this jacket!

I have found this type if analogy directional waterproof jacket, bullet-proof compared to other top name membrane waterproof systems. It is bomb proof and as long as you wash and reproof as Paramo say, who will get years and years and years of use out of it....

Practical
Have wanted a decent, reasonable quality wax jacket for a while now, without spending a fortune on it and this fits the bill. Ordered on a Sunday, dispatched on Monday & delivered on Wednesday. I normally go for a medium, but after looking at the size guide went for the large and it fits perfectly. Can't see the point of paying out almost 4x the cost of this one, for a "named" wax jacket, when this looks as if it will do the same job. Can't wait for it to rain now, so I can go out in it.

Exceptional quality, bought primarily for bike commute to work and i can atest to the windproof and waterproof properties both outstanding. My only complaint was i found the sleeves a bit long i got the small and @ 5ft6in it was fine in length but the sleeves were about 1.5in too long regardless the velcro straps on the sleeves resolve this issue. This jacket is surprisingly light, well made and having worn it a couple of times on very blustery days on the cuts wind out remarkably well. It has little thermal insulation itself, but is very effective worn with a light fleece, cannot yet comment on water resistance, but do still carry a waterproof shell for storms

On arrival the jacket looked very nice and the quality and feel of the fabric was good. However, during the first week the tag attached to the zip broke off and very soon after that I lost a button (the buttons are not sewn on, they are the press stud type). I have requested a replacement button as it doesn't look good without it.

I'm pleased to have picked it up in the sale
I'm pleased to have picked it up in the sale, but I'm not in love with it. It's incredibly warm, and the waterproofing is excellent. But since buying it in December, I've lost one of the zip toggles which came unstitched in my hand.

The interior fleece adds a lot of warmth to the jacket, but it doesn't look good on its own. It fits very loosely and has a horrible shiny material on one side, so despite it being reversible, you have to choose to have the shiny material outside and thus visible, or inside and thus cold on your skin.

Put together as one coat it is much better, however the sleeves of the fleece are incredibly restricting. They can move quite far inside jacket sleeves, and if you wear a watch or a shirt with cuffs, you'll regularly find them pulling each other around and making the coat slightly uncomfortable.

At the price I paid for it, I'd still buy it again, but I think I might be tempted to spend more for one with a nicer internal...

Nice jacket. Extremely warm with the fleece lining. The lining may be removed so that the jacket becomes regular waterproof which is clever
